Alor Tanapi Dive Resort

The most direct route to travel to Alor if entering from overseas is to go via Bali (Denpasar), Surabaya or Jakarta. From there you will need to book a flight to Kupang and from Kupang a final flight to Alor Mali Airport. Domestic flight schedules can change without much prior notice.

The resort opens between 20th of March and 20th of December. It close during the rainy season (December - March) as the visibility drops significantly and there are weeks when it will be very windy and rainy and not suitable for diving or land activities. The driest months are between May and October.

Airline schedules and luggage exclusions / inclusions change frequently. We recommend checking the agents for the most up-to-date information. Excess weight can be purchased during the ticket booking or can be paid at the airport in Indonesian Rupiah when checking-in.

Guests are recommend to bring plenty of mosquito repellent and consult with the doctor should guests have any concerns. The dry season in Alor means there are less mosquitos and few cases of malaria or dengue.

It is highly recommended that guests purchase travel insurance including comprehensive accident, medical, luggage and trip cancellation insurance. In case of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances beyond the resort's  control, the resort will not be able to provide any refund or credit.

Diving insurance is mandatory due to the resort's isolated location, the nearest hyperbaric chamber is located in Bali and evacuation costs and chamber expenses are not covered under standard medical insurance. it is  recommended the guests take DAN insurance, guests will need to purchase according to guest's country of residence.

There are local hospitals in Alor but if for bigger emergencies we recommend evacuation to Bali or Singapore.

As the resort is located on a hill, unfortunately it is not suitable for people with walking disabilities. There are a number of stairs required to go up and down from the dive center to the restaurant.

Breakfast is served à la carte, while lunch and dinner are served family-style. The resort mostly serve authentic Indonesian freshly prepared dishes, but sometimes vary with Western or other international dishes.

Yes, the resort are able to cater to vegans, vegetarians, food allergies or intolerances. The resort send out a form to fill before guests arrival which helps us understand what guests like, dislike, can or cannot eat, and the resort do their best to adapt to the menu based on this information.

The resort have phone signal and 4G internet most of the time.

The resort also provide WiFi. While this works most of the time, it is not 100% reliable. If connectivity is important to guests, we recommend getting a local SIM card with internet data. 4G internet is fairly reliable in Alor and there is good reception all around Alor Tanapi, but keep in mind that the resort are in a remote part of Indonesia and internet service interruptions may occur. 

• Guests are suggested to bring comfortable clothes due to the warm climate although it can get cooler in the evenings in the dry season (May to September).
• Cotton clothing is highly recommended with long-sleeves for protection against mosquitos.
• For the waterfall hikes, guests will need sturdy sandals to walk through the river, and sturdy shoes for any other hikes.
• Mosquito repellent although the resort also provide some at the resort
• Eco-friendly toiletries such as biodegradable soaps and shampoos, bamboo cotton buds or reef-safe sunscreen are especially welcome in Alor while the resort look for solutions to develop their own.

Indonesia use twin round plug sockets with 220 volts. For convenience the resort have available universal power strips, but divers are encouraged to bring their own adapters.

The resort are able to take care of your laundry at the resort for a small fee per kg which goes directly to the cleaning staff.

The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

• The resort are able to accept bank transfers prior to guest's arrival. For extras such as drinks, additional dives, rental equipment, etc. guests can pay in cash in IDR or USD or by credit card (MasterCard, VISA) with a 2% extra surcharge. 
• If paying in cash in USD or EURO, only new crisp banknotes that are in pristine condition are accepted and cannot be older since than 5 years since the date of issue and must be in the following denominations: USD 50 or USD 100, EUR 50 and above. 
• Marine park fees are to be paid in cash in the local currency IDR. 

The resort's site is located on a slope and although there is a beach, there is also a rocky area which the resort feel is not suitable for young children and toddlers. The strong currents in the Pantar Strait unfortunately also do not make Alor an ideal destination if travelling with children. The minimum age for children is 10 years or older.

While the resort aim to keep things flexible, the resort do have a general schedule for meals and dives to ensure that everyone enjoys their time. it is encouragde guests to arrive on time for both meals and dives, as this helps the crew keep everything running smoothly and ensures a great experience for everyone.

All-Inclusive Pricing: Yes, the prices are all-inclusive of meals, which include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. If guests prefer something different, the resort also offer a small menu for an additional charge. Please note that the resort do not offer breakfast-only or half-board pricing.

Tipping and Gratuities: Tipping is not mandatory in Indonesia, but it is always appreciated. If guests were happy with the service, it is common to leave a tip to the resort staff, dive guides and boat crew. A general guideline is to tip based on guests satisfaction with the service, with many guests offering between 5-10% of the total bill as a gratuity.

Alor offers a nice balance between pristine, colorful coral reefs where schools of fish can be encountered, and muck dive sites where the unique critters are usually spotted. The coral sites are mostly bottomless walls or feature a sloping topography where current can vary from mild to strong with good visibility, while in the muck sites guests will find a sandy black bottom with little current and average visibility.

The average temperature is usually between 24-30°C, but it has been known to drop in certain areas to 20°C, in some dive sites guests might feel a thermocline of 16°C. The resort therefore recommend a 5mm wetsuit, gloves and a hood if guests get chilly.

• Currents in Alor are one of the defining features of diving here and play a big role in the incredible marine life encounters. They can range from mild drifts to very strong flows, and in some places, we even experience “washing machine” currents where the water moves in several directions at once (up, down, and sideways).
• The strength and direction of currents are influenced by tides and moon phases. Around the new moon and full moon, tidal exchanges are stronger, which can create more powerful and sometimes unpredictable currents. Even during other phases of the moon, conditions can shift quickly and vary from one site to another.
• Because of this, divers should be comfortable in strong current and have good buoyancy control. Our guides carefully plan dives according to tides, moon phases, and site conditions to ensure safety and enjoyment, but it’s important to remember that currents in Alor can change suddenly.
• The positive side: these nutrient-rich currents are exactly what makes Alor so special—bringing in sharks, schools of fish, and keeping corals healthy and vibrant.

Tip: For weaker currents and a more relaxed drift experience, try to plan your dive trip during the half-moon phase, when tidal flows are generally milder.

To be able to go fun diving, a minimum certification equivalent to PADI Open Water is necessary. The resort also recommend having at least 50-100 dives in order to be able to enjoy and feel comfortable in the Alor-Pantar waters with some previous experience drift diving. Having a PADI Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent will allow guests to dive up to 30 meters, which is sometimes useful depending on the dive site.

Yes, the resort offer recreational PADI diving courses from beginner level to advanced. Please inform if guest would like to take a course.

The resort generally offer 3 dives per day due to the resort remote location, the crew prefer not to push the limits. In exceptional cases the resort might offer the possibility of doing a 4th dive for a group, but this is to be discussed prior to the booking.

Divers are required to remain within the depth and conditions for which they are certified. The crew usually dive between 15-25 meters and ask that all divers stay with their dive guide and dive buddy. All dives are required to be no-decompression dives, the resort do not allow solo-diving and the resort reserve the right to cancel any unused dives should divers not respect and follow the rules of the company.

Photo and Video Etiquette: When taking pictures, please be mindful of other divers and avoid hogging or chasing subjects. Sharing the experience allows everyone to capture their own memories.

There are first-aid kit at the resort and on the boat.

Tanks, weights and weight belts are included in the dive prices. If guest need other equipment such as wetsuit, BCD, regulator, mask, fins, snorkel, dive light, dive computer, etc. please see the resort's rental price list. If guest get cold, the resort suggest bringing a hood and a 5mm wetsuit. 

The resort have limited dive equipment for rent so the resort kindly ask that guest contact beforehand if guest will need to rent equipment. The resort have BCDs and regulators, 5 mm long wetsuits, dive computers, torches, SMB, hooks, masks, snorkels, fins, booties and open-heel fins. The resort strongly recommend purchasing guest's own wetsuits and masks for maximum comfort.

The resort's tanks can be converted from DIN to INT.

The resort have a dedicated camera room at the dive center for photographers and videographers, there is also ample room in the bungalows for keeping equipment. The resort also provide camera only rinse buckets.

Yes!the resort are now offering Nitrox (Enriched Air 30%). The resort have carefully chosen a 30% mix to ensure safety in Alor’s dynamic conditions, including the potential for downcurrents.

Guests will be diving in a marine park reserved for local fishermen only, therefore cannot fish or spear fish.

There is no rule against wearing gloves but the crew will not allow guests to touch the reef unless for safety reasons. the resort ask that the guests sign an “Environmental Awareness Statement” on arrival that says they will be responsible divers and respect the marine life, The resort reserve the right to cancel any unused dives in the event that guests do not follow and respect these rules. If guests need to stabilize theirself while shooting photos, the crew recommend using a pointer with a soft tip (plastic or similar). Buoyancy control is of utmost importance and the crew will be happy to give guests advice and help improve guest's diving skills at no extra charge if tthe crew see there is room for improvement.

Diving Safety: For guest's safety, please stay behind the dive guide and never dive deeper than them. This ensures that guests remain within safe diving limits and can follow the guide’s instructions closely.

Environmental Respect: Please avoid kicking up sand and kicking corals while diving. This helps protect the delicate marine environment and ensures a better experience for everyone.
