Adventuring in the back of beyond doesn't mean you can't enjoy a little luxury too.
The Resort
There are dive destinations, and then there is Raja Ampat. And within Raja Ampat — the crown jewel of Indonesian diving — there is Kri Island. This is where you will find Sorido Bay Resort: an intimate, eco-luxury retreat sitting directly on the house reef that holds the world record for marine biodiversity. For divers who refuse to compromise on either comfort or quality of diving, this is simply as good as it gets.
About the Resort
Sorido Bay Resort opened in 2004, built to offer all western comforts while combining modern and traditional Papuan building methods. The result is a collection of comfortable beachfront bungalows completely integrated into nature — with one of the world's richest dive sites as its house reef.
The resort is operated by Papua Diving, a Dutch-owned and managed company that has been pioneering scuba diving in Raja Ampat since 1990. With decades of experience and an all-indigenous Papuan dive staff — born and raised in the region — no operator knows these waters more intimately.
The resort is deliberately small and exclusive. Sorido Bay is the ideal destination for divers who enjoy peace and solitude on a deserted island, surrounded by luxurious amenities and friendly, attentive service. With only a handful of bungalows, you will never feel like just another guest — the team here genuinely knows your name by your first dive briefing.
Accommodation
Sorido Bay offers several accommodation categories, all sharing the same philosophy: generous space, authentic Papuan character, and direct access to the sea.
Diving
This is the part that stops divers in their tracks. Sorido Bay's house reef is Cape Kri, where Dr. G. Allen set the world record of 374 reef fish species counted on a single dive in 2012. No other resort in the world can claim that. Kri Island is the place in Raja Ampat where all records for marine biodiversity have been broken — the first time in 2001 when Conservation International broke their records by counting 283 different fish species during a single dive, adding 80 species to the previous world record of 203. In April 2012, yet another count recorded 374 different species.
Snorkeling
Renowned for its pristine marine biodiversity, crystal-clear waters, and stunning coral reefs snorkeling in Raja Ampat is a breathtaking experience that promises to be unlike any other.
Excursions
Raja Ampat is spectacular above the water too. Bird songs greet you every morning, and the wooden pier is a favourite spot for guests to fish and watch the sunset. Free transport is provided on Saturday mornings to see the Red Bird of Paradise on nearby Gam Island — an unforgettable wildlife encounter that completes the Raja Ampat experience for nature lovers.

Frequently Asked Questions
To reach Raja Ampat, you will need to take a domestic flight to Sorong. To get to Domine Eduard Osok Airport (IATA: SOQ, ICAO: WASS), we would suggest taking a direct flight from Jakarta (CGK) or Manado (MDC) airports.
Pro tips: if you have few days extra holidays, fly to Manado via Singapore and stay with a land-based resort either in Bunaken or Lembeh. It will be beneficial in getting rid of the jet lag and doing some check dives in top-class dive sites.
We recommend Manado because Sorong is a small harbour city with no activities to offer.
It is common to witness guests who just took intercontinental flights could not wake up (let alone dive) in time, hence not enjoying the first couple days in Raja Ampat.
At the moment, there is no direct flight from Bali to Sorong. You will need to do transit in Makassar (UPG), and sometimes the flight schedule requires you to overnight in this city. There is a hotel within 5 minutes walking inside the airport if you need to take this option.
Once you arrived in Sorong, you will need to take a 10-minute drive to the harbour. Most operators include this car transfer in their holiday packages. Some high end operator will even have a porter looking for you at the luggage collection area.
If you book with a Liveaboard, the pier will be your embarkation point.
If you book with land-based operators, you will need to take boat trip(s) before arriving at your resort. Depends on their location, some resorts will meet you at Sorong pier and take you to the resort island by their fast boat. Meanwhile, some will require you to take the ferry to Waisai Island before picking you up with their fast boat.
We will be more than happy to assist you in booking your domestic flight, car transfers, or ferry ticket in Sorong.
