Tompotika Dive Lodge

Resort on the East side of Central Sulawesi.

The Resort

Tompotika Dive Lodge is an intimate eco-friendly retreat perched on the pristine beachfront of the Balantak Peninsula in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Established in 2014 as the only resort on the east coast, it provides a pioneer-like escape amid lush mountains and untouched reefs, with just five bungalows offering deluxe and standard options complete with air conditioning, private bathrooms with hot water, mosquito nets, and 24-hour electricity.

Renowned for its exceptional diving in a protected marine area, the lodge grants access to over 30 high-quality sites nearby, including black sand muck slopes teeming with frogfish, blue-ring octopuses, ghost pipefish, and mimic octopuses, plus vibrant ridges, pinnacles, and reefs alive with schools of trevallies, barracudas, reef sharks, and occasional eagle rays or mantas. The on-site PADI dive center features local guides, nitrox, private charters, kayaks, bicycles, and a house reef right off the bungalows for convenient muck diving.

Amenities emphasize sustainability and comfort, with an Asia-Europe fusion restaurant serving customizable meals including vegetarian and gluten-free options, plus beer and wine; slow Wi-Fi in the communal area; and community-led conservation efforts protecting local reefs and wildlife. Dive sites range from shallow critter hunts at 10-12 meters to deeper drifts up to 35 meters, with optimal visibility from October to April.

Whether pursuing macro wonders, pelagic encounters, or serene beach exploration, Tompotika Dive Lodge delivers an authentic, low-key adventure in one of Sulawesi’s last frontiers.

Accommodation

Imagine staying in one of only five cozy, beachfront bungalows — each air-conditioned, with private hot-water bathrooms and charging stations for your cameras and dive gear.

Diving

The dive sites in the region are mostly rocky reefs that concentrate a wealth of marine life. The reefs are dry, underwater ridges or large rocks, covered with a very dense fixed fauna: black coral bushes, huge gorgonians and multicolored soft corals, where marine life is concentrated.

Tompotika Summit

A 3 days / 2 nights excursion to climb up the Tompotika mountain (1500 meters). We organise the tent, guides and food. Although there is nothing technical in the trek, it requires a good physical condition due to the difficult paths and the heat.

Bicycles and Kayaks

Explore the village and the surroundings with bicycles on the road or across the coconuts plantations. Or visit the lonely beaches with kayaks.

Excursion to the Maleo Reserve

A Maleo Bird sanctuary is located on a beautiful beach about 20 kms North from the resort. (The Maleo is an endemic bird of Sulawesi). It can be accessed by road or by boat; the visit should take place in the morning to observe the birds digging their nesting holes in the sand in which they lay their eggs in .
